We have an old (circa 1888) large log cabin on the coast of Maine in the Bar Harbor region. While it was kept stained some logs have deteriorated and needed repair or replacement. Tucker Mountain Home has done all the work over the last 10 years and has done a great job. New types of materials have replaced caulking that varied from hemp to rope to whatever. Only in a few instances have entire logs needed to be removed and replaced with most just reduced back to the solid wood that dry rot did not reach and a perfectly cut and scupted piece of new log "gluded" in. The finished match is magnificent craftsmanship!
